Catch per net (CPUE) is the DNR survey's count per gill net or trap net set; higher means more of that species were sampled, not a fishing forecast. Top species per gear shown; where we have no verified common name for a DNR code, the code itself is shown.
Based on the present survey, the fish population of Burns Lake consists of black bullhead, yellow perch, golden shiner, green and hybrid sunfish, pumpkinseed, carp, white sucker, fathead minnow, johnny darter, and tadpole madtom. Black bullhead dominated the catch with fish of small size. Yellow perch were abundant, with 15% over 9 inches. Sunfish species were low in number and small in size. Golden shiner were present in moderate numbers. Carp were moderate in number with all fish less than 12 inches. White sucker were present in low numbers. Seining resulted in high numbers of fathead minnow and low numbers of johnny darter and tadpole madtom.
