Christianson Lake is an approximately 150-acre lake with brown colored water and a maximum depth of eight feet located sixteen miles north of Two Harbors. The public access is within the road right of way of Lake County 202 (Christianson Lake Road) and consists of an earthen boat ramp with limited space to park vehicles and maneuver trailers. A standard survey was completed in June 2024 to monitor the status of the fishery and provide updated information about angling opportunities. The Walleye catch of 3.5 per gill net was within the normal range for the lake and similar to the catch from the last survey. None of the fish sampled were less than 15 inches long or younger than six years old. However, successful natural reproduction during the last decade was documented across the seven unique year classes identified. Walleye size was larger than what is typically observed in area lakes with an average length of 19.8 inches and an average weight of approximately 2.72 pounds. Black Crappie abundance has increased since the last survey and the current population should provide good opportunities to harvest fish with about half the catch greater than 10 inches long. Age analysis identified seven unique year classes with strong contributions from fish produced in 2018 and 2019 and weak recruitment documented from 2020 and 2021. Black Crappie growth was average compared to other area lakes with fish reaching about 9.5 inches long by age-5. Results confirm the lake supports a Black Crappie population typical for the area with good opportunities to catch and harvest fish. The Northern Pike catch also increased since the last survey but was within the normal range for similar lakes in the area. Pike sampled in gill nets ranged from about 15 to 26 inches long with an average length of about 21 inches and average weight a little over two pounds. The largest pike sampled measured 30 inches long and 21% of the combined gill net and trap net catch were over 24 inches long. Survey results confirm the lake supports a naturally reproducing pike population with opportunities to catch and harvest fish consistent with other area lakes. Survey results indicate the lake currently supports excellent opportunities to catch and harvest Black Crappie, fair opportunities for larger sized Walleye, and good opportunities for moderate sized Northern Pike and the chance for an occasional larger fish.
