Catch per net (CPUE) is the DNR survey's count per gill net or trap net set; higher means more of that species were sampled, not a fishing forecast. Top species per gear shown; where we have no verified common name for a DNR code, the code itself is shown.
Eagle Lake is a 291-acre lake with a maximum depth of 34 feet. It is located in north central Hennepin County, in the city of Maple Grove. There is a DNR-owned public access on the northeast corner of the lake. Eagle Lake is actively managed for Muskellunge and Walleye, which are stocked to maintain the populations. Eagle Lake also supports populations of Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, and Black Crappie. A Standard Survey (9 trap nets/6 gill nets) was conducted on Eagle Lake during the week of 6/30/2025 to assess the fishery. Eurasian Watermilfoil was confirmed present in Eagle Lake in 1992 and remains present. During the 2025 survey, Walleye were sampled in lower than average numbers for this lake type. Eleven Walleye were sampled by gill nets, and they ranged in size from 11.3 to 26.0 inches, with an average length of 17.9 inches. The presence of the smaller, 11.0 - 11.5 inch fish shows that the 2023 stocking has contributed to the population in the lake. Northern Pike were sampled with gill nets (15.7/net) above the expected catch rate for similar lakes. There were 94 Northern Pike sampled in gill nets, with an average size of 25.4 inches and the largest fish measured 36.6 inches. While only 18% of the catch fell below 22 inches, 48% of the catch exceeded 26 inches. With both smaller and larger, quality-sized fish available, Northern Pike should provide great fishing opportunities. Effective 2018, anglers can keep 10 Northern Pike, but not more than two pike longer than 26 inches; and all from 22 to 26 inches must be released. Largemouth Bass are present in Eagle Lake, although targeted boat-electrofishing did not occur during the 2025 survey. Incidental capture with trap and gill nets caught 5 Largemouth Bass, with an average length of 10.7 inches and the largest measured at 15.7 inches. One 28 inch Muskellunge was sampled in the summer fisheries survey; such under-sampling is typical with standard Lake Survey nets/techniques. However, angler reports reflect establishment of a viable, consistent muskellunge fishery with a desired size structure. Yellow Perch were sampled with gill nets (16.0/net), above the average catch rate for this type of lake. Average size of Yellow Perch in the 2025 survey was 6.3 inches, with the largest measured at 8.3 inches. Yellow Perch are seldom utilized as a sport fishery in the Metro area due to small sizes. Despite providing limited fishing opportunity, Yellow Perch provide an important forage component for Walleye, Northern Pike, and Muskellunge. Several panfish species (Bluegill…
