Field note · Minnesota stocks by year, not by truck day: walleye fry go in within weeks of ice-out, fingerlings and yearlings mostly in fall, and stream trout in spring and fall. A row here means the fish went in during that year; DNR adds the year's rows after the fact, so the current year can look empty until winter.

Catch per net (CPUE) is the DNR survey's count per gill net or trap net set; higher means more of that species were sampled, not a fishing forecast. Top species per gear shown; where we have no verified common name for a DNR code, the code itself is shown.

Fish Lake is a 238-acre lake with a maximum depth of 49 feet. Fish is located in Maple Grove, in northern Hennepin County. Three Rivers Park District owns and maintains a public access ramp in Fish Lake Regional Park on the southern shore of the lake. Fish is primarily managed for Northern Pike and Largemouth Bass, and also supports populations of Walleye, Bluegill, and Black Crappie. Privately purchased Walleye fingerlings have been stocked by the lake association since 2013. A Standard Survey was conducted on Fish Lake during the week of 7/15/2024 to assess the fishery. Fish Lake had moderate water clarity, measured at 9 feet during the time of this survey. Eurasian Watermilfoil was found in Fish Lake in 1995 and remains present. In 2024 Northern Pike were sampled at rates similar to other lakes in the area, and the sampled fish ranged between 20 and 29 inches long. The abundance of Northern Pike in Fish Lake has fluctuated over the years, but the fish show consistent natural reproduction, so this is a reliable species for anglers to target. Largemouth Bass were not sampled in 2024, however when they were last sampled in 2019 the fish were abundant. Despite a lack bass larger than 20 inches, the 2019 survey showed a healthy fishery with over 45% of the sampled bass exceeding 12 inches. Walleye were sampled in numbers that are about average for this type of lake. Fish from each of the previous 5 stockings were present in the 2024 sample, and more than half of the sampled fish exceeded 15 inches. Bluegill were sampled in a higher than average abundance, and their size was modest. There were 253 Bluegill sampled with trap nets during the 2024 survey, with an average length of 5.7 inches and a maximum length of 7.8 inches. High numbers of Bluegill likely limit growth potential, creating a population mainly composed of small individuals. Only 4% of the sampled fish exceeded 7 inches. Black Crappie were sampled in numbers that are about average for this type of lake. Seventy-nine Black Crappie were sampled, with an average length of 6.3 inches and a maximum length of 9.5 inches. Eleven percent of the sampled fish exceeded 8 inches. Other fish species sampled in low abundances were Black Bullhead, Bowfin, Brown Bullhead, Common Carp, Pumpkinseed, hybrid sunfish, White Sucker, Yellow Bullhead, and Yellow Perch.
