Hubert Lake is a 1,301-acre lake near the city of Nisswa in Crow Wing County. A DNR administered public access is located on the west side of the lake off Camp Lincoln Road. Smallmouth Bass and Black Crappie are the primary management species. A special regulation calls for all Largemouth Bass and Smallmouth Bass 12 inches or larger to be immediately released. Hubert also has special fishing regulations for Crappies (daily limit of 5) and Sunfish (daily limit of 5). Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, and Walleye are other species managed on Hubert. A standard survey using gill nets, trap nets, and spring electrofishing was conducted in August 2025 to assess fish populations and provide angler information. Smallmouth Bass net numbers were the second highest recorded (3.6 per net) and the electrofishing catch for the lake (32.5 per hour) was the highest recorded. Smallmouth Bass collected with all sampling types ranged in length from 7.7 to 19.2 inches with the average length of 13.0 inches. The Largemouth Bass electrofishing catch in 2025 (45.0 per hour) was down considerably from recent samplings. Size still looked good, however, with fish ranging in length from 5.0 to 19.5 inches with an average length of 13.5 inches. Anglers should expect quality bass fishing for both Largemouth and Smallmouth on Hubert Lake. Northern Pike numbers were down (3.5 per net) compared to the previous survey. Anglers should have opportunities to harvest fish with 40 percent of the Pike below the 22 to 26 inch protected slot, as well as a shot at a trophy with 36 percent above the slot. Northern Pike up to 39.1 inches were sampled. Releasing larger Pike is encouraged to help maintain a quality size structure. Walleye fingerlings are stocked (240 pounds) every third year. Walleye numbers (4.4 per net) were slightly down compared to the previous survey. Lengths ranged from 12.1 to 25.4 inches and 30% were 20 inches or larger, suggesting a healthy size structure with both eater-sized and larger Walleye available to anglers. Hubert Lake has special fishing regulations for Crappies (daily limit of 5) and Sunfish (daily limit of 5). Black Crappies were not sampled in trap nets and were found in low numbers in the gill nets (0.5 per net). Size was good, with 67 percent measuring 10 inches or larger. Bluegill numbers were average (19.2 per net) compared to previous surveys. Anglers can expect action fishing Bluegill, however, trophy potential is limited with only 9 percent measuring at least 7 inches and only 1 percent over 8 inches.
