Field note · Minnesota stocks by year, not by truck day: walleye fry go in within weeks of ice-out, fingerlings and yearlings mostly in fall, and stream trout in spring and fall. A row here means the fish went in during that year; DNR adds the year's rows after the fact, so the current year can look empty until winter.

Jouppi Lake is a small bog fringed lake located about seven miles north of Finland within the Superior National Forest. The lake is a designated trout lake stocked with catchable sized yearling Rainbow Trout in the spring of even numbered years and Brook Trout in odd numbered years. There is a carry-in access with limited parking on the west side of the lake located on private property with a permanent conservation easement that provides public access. To reach the lake anglers must take an unmarked rugged forest road off State Highway 1 just south of milepost 328. The lake receives light angling pressure due to its small size and remote location. Trout habitat can be limited during warm summers and winters with deep snow and extended cold. As a result, trout opportunities are mainly for yearling fish stocked in spring, although some fish may survive from year to year. The one Rainbow Trout captured in 2024 was stocked earlier in the spring.
