Catch per net (CPUE) is the DNR survey's count per gill net or trap net set; higher means more of that species were sampled, not a fishing forecast. Top species per gear shown; where we have no verified common name for a DNR code, the code itself is shown.
The Walleye population is maintained entirely by natural reproduction. The fluctuating population indicates that natural reproduction is sporadic. Walleye gillnet catches for 1988 were about 1/2 the local average. Scale reading indicates a strong year class of age-2 fish, however; age-3 and 4 appear to have poor year class strength. Northern Pike numbers traditionally have been low and 1988 catches again indicated this. Yellow Perch are present is sufficient numbers to provide a good forage base.
