Jointly managed by the MNDNR and the City of Eagan, Lemay Lake is a 37-acre, class 37 FiN Lake located at Pilot Knob and Jurdy Road. Moonshine Park provides shorefishing opportunities and a place to launch a canoe or kayak. The sport fish community consists of Black Crappie, Bluegill, Green Sunfish, Hybrid Sunfish, Largemouth Bass, Yellow Perch, and Pumpkinseed Sunfish. Lemay Lake has an aeration system maintained by the City of Eagan to prevent winterkill and protect the gamefish community. A new fish pier is being installed in the summer of 2025 and will provide addional access for shore based anglers. Bluegill and Largemouth Bass have been stocked periodically between 2002 and 2005 and again in 2014 and Black Crappie and Yellow Perch in 2015 and 2018 respectively to create a fishable panfish community. Water clarity has fluctuated from 1.5 feet in 2004 to 6.0 feet in 2014. For more information about Lemay Lake and other Eagan lakes, go to http://www.ci.eagan.mn.us/live/page.asp?menu=2664. The winter of 2013/2014 induced winterkill conditions in LeMay Lake despite winter aeration efforts. The 2024 population assessment consisted of trap netting and electrofishing. The 2024 survey results reveal a good recovery following winterkill. Electrofishing suggests LeMay's Largemouth Bass population has increased substantially since the 2014 survey. No Largemouth Bass were sampled in 2014 by electrofishing. Electrofishing in 2024 displayed 84 catchable size fish. The size of the Largemouth Bass sampled was average for East metro area Largemouth Bass lakes. At this time, panfish abundance is good. Of the 264 Bluegills sampled using trap nets, 27% were 6 inches or larger with length maxing out at slightly over 7 inches. Black Crappie abundance was low but within a normal range for lakes similar to Lemay. Of the Black Crappie observed and only one exceeded 8.0 inches in length. Varying numbers of Green Sunfish (n=8) and Hybrid Sunfish (n=17) and Pumpkinseed Sunfish (n=77) were sampled in assessment. Black Bullhead numbers are down considerably from the 2004 initial survey with none being sampled in 2024. Other fish sampled in low abundance were 1 Golden Shiner and 1 Yellow Perch.
