Lindberg Lake is a 95-acre, lightly developed lake located in central Clearwater County, southwest of Clearbrook, MN. Lindberg has a water clarity of 6 feet and a maximum depth of 19 feet. Emergent vegetation is abundant along the shoreline of this productive lake. The county-owned public access is located on a shallow bay on the eastern shore and has parking for 5 vehicles and trailers. The ramp is shallow and unsuitable for larger sized boats. A standard survey was completed on Lindberg Lake in 2024 to assess the fish community. Gamefish species targeted by anglers in this lake include Bluegill, Black Crappie, Walleye, Northern Pike, and Yellow Perch. Bluegill abundance increased from 2017 and was within the normal range for this lake. Bluegill lengths averaged 8 inches, with a few over 9 inches present. The Bluegill population appears healthy with above average growth rates and ages ranging from 3 to 9 years old. It is recommended to keep smaller sunfish and release the majority of larger sunfish to maintain a balanced population. Black Crappie abundance increased from the previous survey in 2017 and was the highest recorded for the lake. Black Crappie ranged from 5 to 12 inches in length and averaged over 9 inches. Black Crappie growth was below average compared to other lakes in the Bemidji area. Eleven Walleye were captured ranging in length from 16 to 25 inches. Walleye abundance decreased from 2017 and was below the lake's historical average. Walleye fingerlings are stocked in even numbered years to account for limited natural reproduction. Northern Pike are moderately abundant and within the typical range for similar lakes in Minnesota. Northern Pike ranged from 12 to 35 inches and averaged 23 inches. Fifty-two percent of the Northern Pike captured were larger than 22 inches, 18% of the fish were within the 22 to 26 inch protected slot, and multiple fish were over 30 inches. This gives anglers a good opportunity to catch harvestable sized fish with a chance at larger sized fish. Yellow Perch abundance decreased from 2017 and was less than the historical average for the lake. Yellow Perch are an important forage species for large predators like Walleye, Northern Pike, and Largemouth Bass. Other species sampled during the survey included hybrid sunfish, Largemouth Bass, and Pumpkinseed. Currently, Lindberg Lake is not infested with any aquatic invasive species (AIS).
