Catch per net (CPUE) is the DNR survey's count per gill net or trap net set; higher means more of that species were sampled, not a fishing forecast. Top species per gear shown; where we have no verified common name for a DNR code, the code itself is shown.
Loch Ness Lake is a 14 acre FiN pond located in Loch Ness Park, City of Blaine at the intersection of Lexington and 111th Avenues and has been intensively managed since 1976. The City of Blaine manages Loch Ness Park, which provides picnic tables and shelters, grills, playground, and a fishing pier. The sport fish community consists of Northern Pike, Bluegill, Green, Pumpkinseed and Hybrid sunfish. Winterkill occurs periodically, thus limiting intensive predator management. Bluegill Sunfish and Northern Pike, a species that is tolerant of low dissolved oxygen, have been stocked on a semi regular basis. Northern Pike have been stocked as recently as 2014. Although we did not sample Largemouth Bass in our trap or gill nets, they are present based on field observations during the two day survey. Panfish are present in varying numbers. 2015 Bluegill catches (19.4/trap net) are down from the previous survey in 2010 (38.25/trap net). Green Sunfish (N=6), Hybrid Sunfish (N=13) and Pumpkinseeds (N=5) were sampled in relatively low numbers. Black Bullhead (N=36, 2015) numbers have varied, ranging from a low of 3.0/trap net in 2010 to high of 91.6/trap net in 1998. Black Bullhead mean length did not exceed 6.0 inches during this survey.
