Catch per net (CPUE) is the DNR survey's count per gill net or trap net set; higher means more of that species were sampled, not a fishing forecast. Top species per gear shown; where we have no verified common name for a DNR code, the code itself is shown.
Long Lake is a 487-acre lake located four miles north of Eden Valley in south central Stearns County. The lake is moderately productive, has a maximum depth of 35 feet, and is conjoined to the Sauk River Chain of Lakes through a navigable channel from Horseshoe Lake. The lake is managed primarily for Walleye; however, many anglers target other species such as Largemouth Bass, Channel Catfish, Northern Pike, and panfish. Since 2007, the Walleye fishery has been sustained through biennial fry stocking on odd number years. Thirteen young of the year (YOY) Walleye were sampled in one hour of electrofishing (13/hr). Catch rates were less than the 2021 survey (20.7/hr) and the historical average (24.4/hr). Sixteen (16/hr) age one or older Walleye were also sampled and ranged in length from 12.6-20.8 inches, with a mean length of 16.3 inches.
