Field note · Minnesota stocks by year, not by truck day: walleye fry go in within weeks of ice-out, fingerlings and yearlings mostly in fall, and stream trout in spring and fall. A row here means the fish went in during that year; DNR adds the year's rows after the fact, so the current year can look empty until winter.

DNR fish survey, 2022
Margaret Lake is a designated stream trout lake that is managed for Rainbow Trout. The dissolved oxygen and temperature profiles were measured were measured in in August 2022 to monitor habitat for trout. Optimal thermal and oxygen conditions for Rainbow Trout (11-19°C [52-66°F] and greater than or equal to 5 ppm DO) occurred in about 4 vertical ft in August. The coolest water with DO > 5 ppm was 12.5°C (55°F) at a depth of 16 ft. Temperature at a dissolved oxygen concentration of 3 ppm (TDO3) was 10.3°C (51°F) in August. The oxythermal trout habitat found in August 2022 was one of the best measured in nearly annual monitoring since 2006 with occasional measurements prior to then. Margaret Lake will occasionally have low oxygen in the winter causing winterkill of trout. Margaret is normally stocked with about 600 yearling Rainbow Trout each spring. Designated stream trout lakes have additional angling regulations. Be sure to consult the current Minnesota Fishing Regulations book for regulations, seasons, and possession limits before fishing designated trout waters.
