Maude Lake is a 95 acre lake located 20 miles north of Tower. The access is via a 160 rod portage from USFS Road 200. The lake has a maximum depth of 26 feet and brown bog-stained water. On July 8, 2021 Maude Lake was thermally stratified with a surface temperature of 78 F and a bottom temperature of 49 F. Oxygen levels were adequate for gamefish to a depth of 12.0 feet where the water temperature was 59 degrees. Lake bottom substrates along the shoreline are mostly boulder and ledge rock with muck in some of the bays. The overall gillnet catch rate for all fish combined was 14.0 fish/net which was tied for the highest on record for Maude Lake. Yield was 10.3 lbs/net which was above average compared to past surveys on the lake. Fish species sampled were yellow perch, walleye, northern pike, white sucker, and black bullhead. Ten walleye were sampled for a catch rate of 2.0 fish/net, which was right at the average compared to other similar lakes but just below average compared to past surveys on Maude Lake. Lengths ranged from 13 to 25 inches with an average of over 16 inches. Ages ranged from 3 to 17 years. Nine of the 10 fish came from stocked years with four year classes represented. The northern pike gillnet catch was 1.4 fish/net which was below average compared to other similar lakes and past surveys on Maude Lake. Lengths ranged from 16 to nearly 22 inches with an average of nearly 19 inches. Sizes were similar to past surveys. The yellow perch catch rate was 9.8 fish/net which was very good compared to other similar lakes and the highest on record for Maude Lake. Sizes ranged from 6 to just over 11 inches with an average of just over 9 inches. Sizes were similar to past surveys. One black bullhead was sampled for the first time in Maude Lake.
