Catch per net (CPUE) is the DNR survey's count per gill net or trap net set; higher means more of that species were sampled, not a fishing forecast. Top species per gear shown; where we have no verified common name for a DNR code, the code itself is shown.
A winterkill was reported in early spring of 2024 on Moose Lake near the Red Lake Reservation. An investigation was conducted to inventory any species that may have survived. During the brief survey, multiple species were captured including Black Crappie, sunfish, pike, and perch which indicated ample species remained to rebuild the fish community. Often after winterkill events, potential exists for accelerated fish growth due to lower fish densities paired with ample available forage.
