Field note · Minnesota stocks by year, not by truck day: walleye fry go in within weeks of ice-out, fingerlings and yearlings mostly in fall, and stream trout in spring and fall. A row here means the fish went in during that year; DNR adds the year's rows after the fact, so the current year can look empty until winter.

Catch per net (CPUE) is the DNR survey's count per gill net or trap net set; higher means more of that species were sampled, not a fishing forecast. Top species per gear shown; where we have no verified common name for a DNR code, the code itself is shown.

Popowski Lake is located 4 miles north and 2 miles east of Ivanhoe in Lincoln County. Popowski is approximately 140 acres and a large portion of the lake lies within the boundaries of a State Wildlife Management Area (WMA). There is no designated boat ramp but access to the lake can be gained through road rights-of-way and the WMA. High water levels have improved accessibility in recent years. This standard survey was conducted to determine the status of the fishery. Walleyes were moderately abundant with fish from 14-27 inches. Yellow perch were abundant with many from 6-8 inches and some reaching 10 inches. Both species have experienced sporadic, but at times, good recruitment. Black crappies and largemouth bass were present in previous surveys but were not caught in 2025. Walleye fry were stocked during the spring of 2025 to supplement the population. With good growth those walleyes should be 14-15 inches by the summer of 2027.
