Field note · Minnesota stocks by year, not by truck day: walleye fry go in within weeks of ice-out, fingerlings and yearlings mostly in fall, and stream trout in spring and fall. A row here means the fish went in during that year; DNR adds the year's rows after the fact, so the current year can look empty until winter.

Catch per net (CPUE) is the DNR survey's count per gill net or trap net set; higher means more of that species were sampled, not a fishing forecast. Top species per gear shown; where we have no verified common name for a DNR code, the code itself is shown.

Rock Lake is a 439-acre, class 43 lake, located approximately 3 miles south of the City of Russell in Lyon County. Rock Lake is managed primarily for Walleye and secondarily for Yellow Perch. Lower Mississippi Strain Walleye were stocked in Rock Lake in 2016, 2018, 2021, 2022, and 2024. Walleye were not stocked in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so Walleye were stocked in 2021 despite being an "off" year. A Walleye fry stocking evaluation using daytime electrofishing was conducted on September 11, 2025 to determine if natural reproduction of Walleye occurred during a non-stocked year in Rock Lake. Young-of-the-year (YOY) Walleye were captured at a rate of 132.0 per hour, which indicates that natural reproduction occurred in Rock Lake. Walleye fingerlings were 5.2 to 7. inches in length and averaged 5.4 inches. Assuming survival to Spring of 2026, the 2021 year class should be a strong year class in the Rock Lake Walleye population.
