DNR fish survey, 2021
A targeted survey was conducted on September 7 and 8, 2021 on Rock Lake (DOW 58-0007-00) for the purposes of determining if a fish kill had occurred during the winter of 2020/2021. A concerned angler reported not being able to catch any fish and thought it may have killed over the winter. Six trap nets (three standard lake survey nets and three walleye pond nets) were placed randomly around the lake. A total of 102 walleye were caught in the nets. Thirty-eight walleye greater than young-of-the-year size, and 63 young-of-the-year. One golden shiner (5.9 inches) was also caught. One of the walleye pond sized nets did have a hole which affected the catch. Size range was from fingerling (5 to 6 inches) to 20.1 inches. No weights were taken. Based on the catch, the walleye population in Rock Lake appears to be in fine shape at the present time.
