Rainbow Trout have been stocked in Rod Smith Pond annually in June by the Rainy Lake Sportfishing Club. The DNR have also stocked Bluegill and Largemouth Bass annually since 2014. An assessment was done May 25, 2016 to May 26, 2016 to determine if fish were present after low oxygen readings were recorded in the winter and to determine the abundance levels of undesirable species. Four trap nets (0.75-inch) were set around the shoreline for two consecutive days. Bullheads, Green Sunfish, Northern Pike, and Yellow Perch were sampled. Additionally, Largemouth Bass were observed in the pond but not captured. Abundance levels appeared reasonable. For example, 9 Bullheads were sampled in 2016 compared to 1,540 sampled in 2014.
