Seretha is a 57-acre lake located 12 miles northeast of Northome, MN. A county owned public access is located approximately one mile west of Highway 71 that features a gravel boat ramp and a dock. The maximum depth is 15 feet, and approximately 65 percent of the lake is less than 15 feet deep. Seretha has had documented winterkill events in the past and has been periodically monitored for dissolved oxygen levels in late winter. A standard survey was conducted in early June of 2024. Seretha Lake has no special regulations. Fishing regulations follow statewide regulations for inland waters. Previous management plans have identified several long-range goals, including to provide Walleye fishing opportunities between winterkill events. No Walleye were sampled in gill nets or trap nets during the 2024 survey. It is possible that a winterkill event has occurred since stocking resumed in 2021, but it is more likely that conditions were not right at the time of stocking and fry survival was low. Walleye year-classes from fry stocking are much more variable and tend to follow a boom-and-bust pattern in lakes prone to winterkill. Northern Pike gill net catch rate was 15.7 fish per net, which was well above compared to similar lakes. Total length ranged from 13.1 to 26.6 inches with an average length of 20.9 inches. A total of six year-classes were present and ages ranged from 1 to 6 years. Northern Pike growth rates are below average compared to other lakes in the area, but Seretha Lake provides a great opportunity for anglers looking to target Northern Pike. With plenty of Northern Pike below the protected slot of the North-central zone (22-26" must be immediately released), Seretha Lake provides a great opportunity for anglers looking to take advantage of the 10 fish bag limit. Yellow Perch gill net catch rate was 3.3 fish per net, which was above average compared to similar lakes. Total length ranged from 6.2 to 9.7 inches with an average length of 7.8 inches. A total of two year-classes were present and ages ranged from 2 to 3 years. Yellow Perch offer an additional fishing opportunity for anglers and more importantly act as forage for predators such as Walleye and Northern Pike.
