Sweetbrier is a 20-acre lake located in Elko-New Market Township in Scott County, and it is managed as a part of Fishing in the Neighborhood (FiN). Sweeny Park and a Disc Golf Course abuts the lake on the western and southern shorelines, and the northern and eastern shorelines are primarily private property. Shore fishing is accessible via fishing pier on the southwest corner of the lake from Sweeny Avenue, with 2-3 parking spaces at the head of a gravel walking path. A standard lake survey was conducted in June 2025. Green Sunfish were captured in high abundance and average size, ranging from just over 3 inches to nearly 7 inches in length. Black Crappie were present in above average abundance and size compared to similar lakes. These fish averaged greater than 8 inches in length, with the largest measuring approximately 9 ½ inches. Bluegill abundance was low, and the fish were small with an average length of 5 inches. Most of the Bluegill measured were less than 5 inches in length. Largemouth Bass have been observed in Sweetbrier Lake, though none were sampled in this survey.
