Field note · Minnesota stocks by year, not by truck day: walleye fry go in within weeks of ice-out, fingerlings and yearlings mostly in fall, and stream trout in spring and fall. A row here means the fish went in during that year; DNR adds the year's rows after the fact, so the current year can look empty until winter.

Catch per net (CPUE) is the DNR survey's count per gill net or trap net set; higher means more of that species were sampled, not a fishing forecast. Top species per gear shown; where we have no verified common name for a DNR code, the code itself is shown.

Sylvan Lake is a small impoundment of Canby Creek, located within the city limits of Canby. Due to its location it receives a high amount of fishing pressure, particularly by children. Many of the fish in Sylvan Lake likely originated in Del Clark Lake a short distance upstream. Fisheries management activities include netting surveys and adult game fish stockings. Curly-leaf pondweed was discovered in Sylvan Lake in 2010. By 2011, it was abundant and covered the entire basin. The lake was treated with herbicide in 2012 and 2014 to reduce curly-leaf abundance in order to improve fishing opportunity. The treatments were temporarily successful, but in 2016 dense vegetation was again present from late spring through summer. Black Crappies, Bluegills, Northern Pike, Walleyes, and Yellow Perch were caught in low numbers during 2016. Recent stockings include adult Walleyes, Northern Pike and Yellow Perch during 2015, and adult Walleyes during 2016. Sylvan Lake will continue to be managed as a Kids Fishing Pond and annual stockings of adult game fish are planned.
